Nods, I totally understand, its really a marketing tool for a commercial site, not an artists site. I fear they are not getting the difference between artists and those that doing this professionally, the professionals are only a very small minority of the overall community and these tools can cause some of us a lot of harm, not at all what I think they intend, but still its not taking the sensitivity of the work and the situation for many of us into account. For instance, what possible benefit can there be to a share option on a stock account that is restricted to DA use only? The very use of the share button violates the stock artists rules in that case.

Besides: Facebook and other sites already allow sharing of images if you upload them yourself, so I fail to see the necessity of such a tool. I've a lot of shots that I don't submit to non-art sites because they've no application to, say, social networking, never mind that I don't want them more easily lifted by others for stock usage or blatant theft or etc. They let us opt out of dA-Mobile -- which is technically similar but far less vulnerable -- so I don't see why we can't do the same, here.

I'm a lot less enchanted with dA than I used to be, too, but...seeing as I've no following at the other art sites to which I submit work, I'm sorta obligated to keep going, I think.

Yes... and their big argument seems to be 'well, it doesn't do anything new really. People could post your stuff in places before.' Well, ok, then what is the point of the tool? No one needs it. Just makes it easier I guess... which is exactly what I don't like.

The last part you mentioned is what's been keeping me here too. I've dedicated a lot of time to this site and also met a lot of creative, wonderful people here... makes it hard to leave.

Yes... I don't exactly know all the specifics, I'm not a completely dedicated follower of the news, but I do know I don't like it... and a lot of other artists don't either. At the very least it should be made optional.

I don't know. It's the least of my problems really. I know I'm not the greatest photographer but I am still awfully protective when it comes to my stuff. I'm two steps away to ruining all of it with watermarks.

Nods. From what I have been able to find out from experimentation, it will put a thumbnail of the deviation if it is not marked mature and a link to your profile page if it is marked mature. That was what I was doing with my facebook, testing it and how it works. I suppose one thing that could be done is to just mark everything mature but then that makes it difficult for the ordinary folk to see the works that are actually non mature here on DA. So there is no good option, unless and until they make it optional to have those on your deviations.

Hi! I think you're right: if you feel uncomfortable with some of the "embarrassing" deviations, then put them in the storage... It's the safest thing to do. Finally, the privacy is truly important... Few people are truly open minded: people usually tend to hypocritically judge someone else behaviours... Therefore, having personal materials on line expose you to their judgements. You said that you feel uncomfortable when someone else on the social networks has seen your photos... I think that the "life" on social networks is easier than the real one: you don't see directly your interlocutor, you can't feel the hints in her/his the voice and facial expressions. How would you feel if someone,such as a colleague you are not friend with, knows your photos? I'm personally quite shy, and I even don't like that my colleagues at the University or students see my illustrations... even if someone has seen them published around, few people care about the artist that illustrated the book cover... and thus, few people know what I do in the free time.
Thus, if you think it's time to put some deviations in the storage, do it...
Anyway, I should admit that I like most of them.
